If you get the chance to spend a couple days in New Orleans I have a few recommendations. Many people are aware of Mardi Gras here but Year around there are so many fun things to do and see!
Acme Oyster Bar
These oysters are colored in garlic and cheese and fried into these amazing little treats! I had never had oysters before I ate at Acme and I now I am going to get some every time I visit! Amazing people, great atmosphere and fast oysters! http://www.acmeoyster.com
Hotel Monteleone
They say the French Quarter begins in the lobby of the Hotel Monteleone and it's easy to see why! The bar in the hotel is an actual spinning carousel! (Click to watch it spin!) The drinks are made beautifully and it is always packed in here. If you want a chair at the spinning bar, you might have to wait.
Jackson Square
This Historic Park holds so much life in New Orleans. Between the live music and hand made art on display, there is an overwhelming wave of color and fun energy washing over the entire square. There are great restaurants and boutiques along the park along with street artists and performers!
Bourbon Street!
Bourbon Street was the highlight of the night! Just walking around and watching the street performances is fun but if you want to really have a good time, I recommend the Cats Meow. I used to watch Cats Meow on EarthCam, watching funny drunk people sing along to their favorite songs. When I got a chance to be there the atmosphere was even more fun, everyone is supporting each other and singing along and it's nice to watch people really have fun and even face their fears. http://www.catskaraoke.com
Cafe Du Monde
Cafe Du Monde -since the 1800s this place has been here serving a handful of items only. The menu is small and your options will look like this: Cafe Au lait, Beignets, and Orange Juice. They are always packed and will serve the most delicious little beignets covered in powdered sugar. This is non negotiable, when you come to NOLA you must come here!
If your coming to New Orleans please check out the listed attractions and remember to have fun! Get on a pedi-cab, Take a Mule Tour, check out the Mississippi River and follow your nose! The food is amazing and the music is inspiring!
