When I started my weight loss journey, every book I read noted the importance of tracking progress constantly. As a small business owner, every day looks different and I needed something that would help track my very unorganized fitness plan. I had to get my first fitness tracker from Fitbit.
After using my Fitbit for months, I decided to try Misfit Ray. I always loved my Fitbit but I wanted to see if I could find an alternative for times Fitbit looked too sporty with my outfits.
I chose to wear both on the same arm at the same time for a week to see if there was a difference.
There were actually several differences that caused me to compare and I compiled a list to help consumers decide which they would purchase.
Price
Misfit provided a better price than Fitbit. Every chance I can save money I take it but I couldn't let that be the only deciding factor. This information helps me when it comes to picking one to accessorize. The extras and add ons for Misfit are covering a lower price range which allows me to get even more accessories!
Comfort -
There are several times I have lost my Fitbit because I took it off halfway through a nap or sleep because it was uncomfortable. The wristband offers a good grip on your arm to keep it tracking your steps accurately. It also can feel like it's keeping my skin from breathing and often I would sweat under it. Misfit's leather band closes like any normal watch band or belt and fits very comfortably all day
Power-
The unexpected comparison that made me decide the Misfit was a winner. I've replaced my Fitbit charger two times. Fitbit makes a specific charging cable for your Fitbit, unfortunately when I was without a charger, I also couldn't plug in my Micro USB for a quick charge. About every week I have to take off the Fitbit and charge it. It causes me to lose an accurate tracking of my weekly activities and sometimes I can forget to put it back on for days. The Misfit, on the other hand, comes with replaceable batteries that last up to six months! I am so dependent on my Fitness Tracker to tell me how well I am doing and this helps me feel like my results are most accurate
Screen
This may be a game changer for the consumer. The Fitbit Alta comes with a screen that you can tap to access some of your tracking information without opening the app. It also has a watch and calendar feature. If you are a watch wearer and like to watch your progress live then this isn't a bad idea.
Personally I never used to wear a watch and even with the Fitbit on my arm, I will still pull out my phone to check the date and time. The appearance of the screen and the constant tapping I have to do to get to the information can make me feel like I am in a Star Trek Episode
Technology-
This is a screenshot from my Fitbit and Misfit app at the same time from the same day. If you look closely you can see that they do not completely match up.

There is no way for me to prove which one is the most accurate without deep investigation. What I can compare is user friendliness and information available.
Misfit has a fun point system to help me reach my goals. One of my favorite things about working out is finding out how well I did on my fitness tracker. Fitbit will tell you how many active minutes you have. For example: 75 min Active. Misfit showed me how long I do activity, if it is light, moderate, or heavy. For example: 33 min Light Activity, 46 min Moderqte Activity etc. Also Misfit will tell you how long you slept lightly, deeply, or awake in minutes while Fitbit will simply show you on a chart while only showing the full time covered actually sleeping/awake/restless as a whole. More information is key for me. Misfit wins this round for me
Look
On the left side you can see the numerous times I've tried to make my Fitbit work with my outfit. Its chunky wristband and screen are well made but sadly I can't razzle dazzle them fully with such a sporty looking watch on. I'm still active in a dress and heels and that's why Misfit rules in beauty for me. I don't have to take it off in the name of fashion. Men have their sexy options too on Misfit. The Ray I received is sleek, Rose Gold (same color as my iPhone) which makes it feel like a piece of jewelry. Misfit's thin leather strap and small design make it easy to wear all day. It's not too dressy for the gym but not too sporty for a night out.
Accessories-
I love all the ways Misfit offers beautiful accessories. I would find myself mixing up the necklace and bands easily for different occasions. Unfortunately Fitbit offers more of the same. A metal band for $100 and a leather band for $30. Misfit comes with a leather band at purchase instead of the rubber ones that come with FitBit
I know every consumer has their own needs when it comes to using a fitness tracker and whether you prefer Fitbit or Misfit, just keep moving and stay active and reach your personal goals.
